Terms of Use

1. Who may use this portal

Accounts are for graduates and current students of the University of Zimbabwe, University staff, and partner employers approved by the University. Every registration is reviewed by the alumni office before it is activated, and we may decline or withdraw an account where we cannot verify the person's connection to the University.

2. Your account

Keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly at alumni@uz.ac.zw if you think someone else has access to your account. The information you give us — particularly your academic record — must be accurate. If you change academic details after verification, your record returns to the alumni office for re-checking.

3. How to behave here

Do not use this portal to:

  • harass, defame or impersonate anyone;
  • collect other alumni's contact details for marketing, recruitment or any bulk purpose;
  • post anything unlawful, misleading or infringing;
  • attempt to gain access to records you are not entitled to see, or to disrupt the service.

The directory exists so that graduates can reconnect with one another. Treating it as a mailing list is a misuse of it, and we may suspend accounts that do so.

4. Giving to the University
  • Gifts are processed by Paynow (Webdev (Private) Limited). Their terms apply to the payment itself. Your card details are entered on Paynow's pages and never touch this system.
  • A gift is only complete once the payment gateway confirms it. Until then it shows as pending or processing.
  • Bank transfer and cash gifts are recorded when you tell us about them and confirmed by the alumni office once the money is received.
  • Gifts are generally not refundable. If you have given in error, contact alumni@uz.ac.zw as soon as possible. Requests are considered individually by the Alumni Office together with the University's Finance Office, and a refund is more likely to be possible the sooner it is raised.
  • Restricted gifts are applied to the appeal you chose. Where an appeal is over-subscribed or closes, the University may direct the balance to the area of greatest need.
  • A receipt is issued for every completed gift. The University makes no representation as to whether a gift is deductible for tax purposes; donors who intend to claim a deduction should take their own advice and may request any additional documentation from the Alumni Office.
5. Event tickets
  • A paid ticket reserves your place from the moment you start checkout. If you abandon payment, the place is released after a short period.
  • Your place is confirmed once the payment gateway confirms the payment.
  • If you cancel your attendance, a refund request is recorded automatically and the Alumni Office will contact you. Refunds are at the University's discretion and are usually not available once catering and other arrangements for the event have been committed. Any cut-off that applies to a particular event will be stated on that event's page.
  • If the University cancels an event, ticket holders will be refunded in full.
  • Where a paid ticket constitutes a taxable supply, the University issues receipts in the form required by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
6. Jobs and content you post

Job listings are posted by employers and by the University. We do not verify every listing, and the University is not a party to any employment arrangement that results — apply with the same care you would anywhere else, and never pay a fee to secure a job advertised here.

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting it you allow the University to display it within the portal and, for success stories, in University alumni communications. We may remove content that breaches these terms.

7. Availability

We aim to keep the portal available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. It may be taken down for maintenance, and features may change.

8. Liability

The portal is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, the University is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from its use, or for dealings between users — including employment arrangements and contact made through the directory. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Closing your account

You may ask us to close your account at any time. We will delete your personal information except where we are required to keep it — financial records in particular. See the Privacy Notice.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Zimbabwe, and the courts of Zimbabwe have jurisdiction over any dispute.
